Insula Primalis

Warmed by a series of hydrothermal springs and an active volcano, Insula Primalis is the only permafrost-free land north of the Arctic circle, and is home to several genera of plants and animals extinct elsewhere on earth since the late Cretaceous.

First discovered by Canadian reconnaissance pilots flying covert missions to the Soviet Union, the island was initially surveyed as a possible forward operating base for NATO. Although some initial facilities were built, construction was slowed by the island’s remote location and hostile native species. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the partially constructed base was abandoned, only to be completed and re-inhabited years later as a refuge for the Citizens of the Sun.
